Refugee Week

In the last week of Term 2, the College celebrated Refugee Week.

Refugee Week is held every year to celebrate the contributions and resilience of refugees and asylum seekers. Our College recognizes our school community has a number of students and families of a refugee background.

The theme for this year’s Refugee Week was ‘finding freedom and family’. In keeping with this theme each campus held a successful lunch time celebration of cultural dancing, music and cultural food with money raised donated to an organisation that supports refugees.

At the junior campuses, students had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers of a refugee background who shared some of the challenges they have faced in coming to Australia. We would like to thank Abdi Aden, past students Orshina Kanoun and Zaid Sako and current Year 12 student Nasiya Hassan Adan for sharing their story and inspiring our students that can chase their dreams.

The key message for our students and school community is regardless of differences, we are all human which means we need to care and support each other.
